Up and running…

So finally we have an online store.

It's been a longer time coming then originally planned but we wanted to make sure that we got everything just right to make a better shopping experience for you. Thanks go out to my wonderful web guru husband Tim for getting us up and running!

Take a look at our store front. Let us know if there's anything we missed and maybe make a purchase or two.

The price of fair

We're almost ready to launch our new website, YAY!

This week I've been working on finalising the pricing and entering our products into the site. Once this is done we'll be just about ready to launch, so stay tuned for our launch date.

Through all this process though I've been thinking about how much the average woman (or guys if you're into buying woman's wear for whatever reason) would spend on a nice pair of pants or a pretty cardigan...

So how much do you spend? And what sort of price would you put on knowing that the product you bought was made in fair conditions?

I'd love to know your opinions so if you're willing to take a few minutes please let me know on this quick survey.

BTW guys, sorry we can't cater to your ethical clothing needs yet... but hopefully we will in the future. But the survey is for you too.

Arrivals

The last week has been an exciting one! Orders from both Komodo and Bibico have arrived this week so now it's time to really get to business.

The clothing is beautiful... as I expected. I love the slight edginess of Komodo designs. The pieces I've chosen are smart enough to wear in most office environments but the beautiful, natural fibres are lovely and luxurious. The Bibico pieces make me feel so warm and happy, they have a certain lushness about them. I especially love that the Bibico natural, 100% pure wool, 100% hand knitted peices have a beautiful, clean wool smell. Makes me feel all warm and tingly, and to know each peice is lovingly hand knitted under Fair Trade practices is so very special.

Tim has been diligently working on getting the web site up and running and it's starting to come together nicely. Amazingly, after 7 months of Mahalath only ever sleeping for about 20 minutes at a time during the day, this week she's discovered the art of day time napping (not consistently, but it's a start) and I've been taking advantage of having more time to get things done.

Decisions, decisions…

So it turns out there is quite a bit to think about when starting a fashion store.

Which brands do I choose, looking at style and ethics.

How much will sell, what are people looking for here in Australia. What sizes to buy, how many items to get.

For starters wearnaked will be offering some beautiful women’s wear.

We’ll be placing an order from Komodo soon, beautiful clothing that’s SA8000 certified and a made by partner and are looking at the possibility of offering a range from other brands like Bibico.

In the beginning...

In the beginning there was a question... hey... why does the UK have this great fair trade clothing market and here in Australia there's not much to choose from?

Then this question became an idea... well why not import those beautiful clothes... buying wholesale from the UK distributors and import directly from the manufacturers to save miles and money on the freight.

Then came life... working, finishing a uni degree, having a baby...

Then... then we come to now...

Mahalath, my beautiful baby girl is now 5 weeks old, I graduate in one week and I've got a year of leave from my normal work ahead of me...

So lets see what we can do.

A plan of sorts developed over the last year and a bit while I was dreaming of boosting the Australian fair trade market while I should have been working or doing uni assignments. I think I can start to implement a thing or two while I bounce the rocker with one foot and sing "you are my sunshine"... I'm a mum now... designed for multi-tasking.

So... if you care about where your clothes come from. If you want to buy beautiful clothing that you know has been produced ensuring sustainable life for those who made it stay tuned... and hey, let me know if you're keen to know more. I'll keep the blog updated with where I'm up to in the process.
